My Story

It all started in 2011 when Magdalene was specialising in jewellery design at Central Saint Martins. Her original inspiration came from a project called “Close Up”. In this project she explored the powerful beauty of microscopic images. One that struck her was a scoop of chocolate ice cream! Although smooth when viewed by the naked eye, once magnified 390 times she could see the beautiful intricacies of each molecule that lined it’s surface. It was this one image that drew her to explore the compelling detail of the world under the microscope and implement these images into her first pieces.

Magdalene achieves her designs by using techniques that yield individually shaped pieces of metal that are cast into her jewellery. This represents the inconspicuously miraculous designs of nature close up. Magdalene is devoted to giving each piece its own identity, so that they add to the individuality of each wearer. Building on her “close up” inspiration Magdalene draws on her Greek heritage, the ancient Greeks who are so well known for their detailed sculptures, fantasies and mythology, further fuel the beauty of her jewellery. Magdalene now sculpts her designs to carry a little bit of history into the future by fusing traditional techniques with her futuristic inspirations. As the natural process known as oxidation takes place, her miniature sculptures have an ever-changing essence of life as they go onto evolve.

The ancient, the modern and the futuristic combine not only in design but in material, technique and expression to dissolve boundaries and enrich the senses in a way that’s inspirational and personifies the beauty that surrounds us. From the sensuous curvature of a wave, to the nature-sculptured beauty of a rock and the majestic form of each and every living creature, beauty and inspiration have always been bountiful through the ages. Magdalene has a unique ability to merge these elements together in a way that effortlessly blends materials, skill, vision and love to create living designs that transcend trends and time.

Magdalene is constantly sourcing and researching sustainable materials and focusing on improving as our resources grow. Each piece is ethically hand-crafted by Magdalene and infused with love. These individual pieces are made with thought for the future by using recycled brass and silver from our precious Earth.
